Yay!!! The artwork is finally up! What do you think?
I love it!!! I love all the color and the three birds (momma bird, papa bird, and baby bird). I think my sister did an excellent job.
First, I should share how we decided on this for the artwork above the crib. Back during the summer when I was still brainstorming for the nursery, I knew I wanted to use a lot of color in the room, but I needed something for the basis of the color palate. At first I thought of using an enlarged piece of photography, but I couldn’t ever find anything that stole my heart. We toyed with the idea of doing a Chronicles of Narnia theme (hopefuly Aslan wouldn’t be scarry above a crib), but that never planned out. On a side note, I can’t wait to read the Chronicles of Narnia with our little girl someday!
However, that did lead us in the direction of wanting to use some artwork with animals in it. Wanting to keep the budget down, I turned to Etsy and started searching. In case you have never checked Etsy out, they have a lot of great stuff and at reasonable prices. That’s where I found this piece.
I think it was originally around $250. I am not sure though because it is listed as “sold” now and doesn’t give the price anymore. $250 was not what I had in mind, but I loved the painting. The medium used was acrylic, so I felt like I might could replicate it. The more I thought about it though, the more I realized I didn’t have the supplies or time. So I sent an e-mail to my sister with a picture of the painting attached and asked if she thought she could paint it. She said yes! She had the supplies, but I am not so sure about the time. But she did manage to work it into her busy schedule, thankfully.
With the artwork secured, that’s when I knew I had a color palate to base everything off of. The painting helped us determine what color boxes to select, the color for the chair, rug, dresser, and even curtains.
Hopefully, I will be able to get the rest of the artwork up in the room soon! (As soon as I start making it.) It is so exciting to see everything coming together.
What about you? Have you painted any artwork lately? Or used artwork as the basis for the color palate of a room?

Thanks Casey. I have been following your trip out to Seattle on your blog. I am loving it!
I love the painting your sister did. She is a great artist. I pinned a painting similar to this one that was of just a husband and wife bird. I wonder if they were by the same artist. I’ve been meaning to try and recreate it with a little be of tweaking.
Thank you! I was so excited that she was able to do this for me. I bet the one you like is by the same artist. She had several bird paintings. The colors in them are beautiful!
