Can you believe it? We are 20 days away from Thanksgiving and 19 from our little one’s due date! I have decided in these weeks leading up to Thanksgiving I will pick something I am thankful for each week to share about.
This week I am feeling extremely thankful for our house.
This one little sliver (and I do mean sliver) of the earth that is ours (in less than twenty years when the mortgage is paid off). Well really it’s God’s, and He has given us the privilege to use it for a while.
Which leads me to why I am so thankful for it right now. Tomorrow night (as long as I don’t go into labor before then), we are hosting a simulcast of Secret Church at our house for up to fourteen people. (Click on the hyperlink for a video about Secret Church.)
Secret Church is an intense six hour Bible Study taught by David Platt, pastor of The Church at Brook Hills. The concept for Secret Church came about from mission trips to persecuted areas where churches had to meet secretly. These believers would come eager to learn more about the Word of God and sit for hours every day listening to him teach, wanting to take this knowledge and share it with other believers.
Starting this year, LifeWay has simulcast the event so that people all around the world can listen and be challenged in their faith. Tomorrow night, there will be over 1000 simulcast sites and over 35,000 people around the world participating in Secret Church. Michael Luke and I feel privileged to be one of the simulcast sites. The study is on Family, Marriage, Sex and the Gospel. We are so thankful to have the resources and a house that will be used for ministry.
Now we don’t have a plush jumbo home theater room, but we do have a den/dining room that will accommodate fourteen people comfortably. (I think we have had up to sixteen before for small group Bible study in our den alone.) In any case it’s better than places they meet in persecuted countries.
I didn’t have any recent pictures of our den, but these were taken about a year ago. Not much has changed besides moving some pictures around and decorating the mantel. I had to run downstairs and take this picture though.
Who knows what the furniture arrangement may end up looking like for the actual event. We have benches and chairs that can be moved around. Some may rather sit at the dining room table ( I may be one of these), or the floor is always an option.
We feel blessed to have the opportunity to use our home for God’s glory. Is anybody else attending Secret Church or a simulcast of it tomorrow night? Or have you opened your home up recently for any ministry purposes?
