My 2012 Word

Things have been crazy-busy here lately. This past weekend we toured the South, visiting great-grandparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and a few other “great” relatives. All this has left me little time to work on projects around the house. But I did want to share with you a challenge that I read about the other day. Layla at The Lettered Cottage asked everyone to think of a word for 2012, a word that challenges, motivates or encourages you.

I thought about this for a while but wasn’t able to come up with a word that described my mission for 2012. After missing her link party and still pondering it, one finally came to me!

Disciple

Why disciple? Disciple because God has entrusted me with a little girl. A child who I have the opportunity to stay home with and influence every day. My job is to reveal God to her, to teach her to glorify Him, and to show her how to have a relationship with Christ.

I am excited about this but also a little nervous because I am not fully prepared. So I have decided to start equipping myself for the challenge before me…

Equipping myself by memorizing scripture. This is hard for me because memorization is a weakness of mine. But I want to have it handy for teaching and rebuking. The authority of God will carry more weight than any reason I can give to do or not to do something.

I know God will use this whole process to draw me closer to Him, which is a nice side effect. I already find myself thinking of Him more frequently.

So even though I am a few days late, I have found my word for 2012… disciple.

How will I use this as a reminder and encouragement to me? I plan to print it out, frame it, and display it on my desk. (Which will be great because I need to clean it off!) This will serve as a reminder of my need to memorize scripture to disciple Noah.

What about you… Do you have a word for 2012? Is memorization a challenge for you? If so, what do you do to help? I’ll be back later this week with project updates.
