Prepping for the Rain

Ok, I’ll try to make to make this quick… I really need a nap.

Master bedroom

Remember back in the Spring when I bought this accent pillow for the master bedroom? In that same post I mentioned that we bought paint for our room back in July of 2011 and still had not gotten around to paining the walls. Well we finally got around to it this past weekend.

I would love to show you completed photos of the room and let you see how beautiful it is but it’s not there yet. Right now our furniture is still in this formation.

Saturday we spackled and primed the walls.

We used leftover paint from our dining room as our primer. It’s a light gray color so it was perfect for covering up the darker green walls.

The primer is really close to our main color in shade and has the same blue undertones as our paint color. This was one of the reasons we decided to use it as our primer.

Here you can see the walls primed and a sample of our final color we chose hanging up. There isn’t a lot of difference in tonal value but a subtle shift in color.

Sunday we painted the walls Sherwin Williams Rain and fell in love with it! We managed to get the final coat painted in around three hours (the length of Noah’s afternoon nap).

It looks really blue in the picture above because this was taken in the morning light which really brings out the color in it.

The trim is what is holding us back from finishing and being able to show you the final pictures.

We are having to repaint it because whoever painted the room before us (twice) did a terrible job and got paint all over the trim. Not like a dab here or a dab there but a huge swipe here and another one there. So hopefully we can get the trim knocked out one night this week and then I’ll be back to share it with you.

Now onto my much needed nap. You see all this painting is finally getting to me and I sort of veered off of my migraine prevention diet this past weekend.

One of the things I splurged on was this amazing Nutella Marshmallow Shake from Flip Burger Boutique Saturday night where we went to celebrate Michael Luke’s birthday. It was amazing but I paying for it all now with a minor annoying headache. Hopefully, this nap will help.

Have you tackled any painting projects lately? Or maybe just created chaos in your house? Sometimes I feel like I am tornado going through our house. It doesn’t take much for me to make a mess.

Just for fun… here’s a picture of our little helper while we were painting.

Hard worker isn’t she?

Yay for getting a big project done! I can’t wait to see the final pictures! Just the sound of the paint color is soothing. I plan on doing some painting in the way distant future. Out entire house is the same beige color. Nice, but a little boring.

I definitely hear you on the creating chaos! That is all we seem to do around here. Especially with a baby scattering everything that was just picked up! I guess that is life now! 🙂 Wouldn’t trade it for anything!

The name “rain” definitely sold me on the color choice as well. I love laying in bed listening to the rain. It’s really a peaceful, calming color for our bedroom.

Thanks! We must have great taste in furniture. I bet it looks great in cream… sometimes ours can feel a little bulky since it’s so dark. I think this new paint color takes care of that problem though.

That is so true. It’s amazing how time consuming painting is but in the end you can’t help but be proud of your work.

I guess that’s the way it goes when we buy older homes. When I am painting I wonder what people will gripe about with my paint job. Ha! Hopefully, it won’t be too bad.

Thanks! Looks like it will be early next week before I can show the end result. All we lack is the trim and doors but we have already run out of nights to get it done. I look forward to sharing it though and I am loving the new color.
