This weekend we will be resting and relaxing because we have been busy running in two different 5K’s. Well, technically I only ran in one and to get even more technical I only ran in part of that one but who needs to get technical!
So, here’s the rundown of where we’ve been running.
Race One
Two weekends ago, September 29 we ran in (Un)adopted, a race hosted by Lifeline Children’s Services, the adoption agency we are going through for our adoption.
(Un)adopted is a ministry that “exists to provide a hope and a future for orphans around the world by facilitating a safe environment to disciple and equip children in need.” (Lifeline Children’s Services, (Un)adopted.org) I challenge you to go check out their web page. It truly is incredible what they are doing.
Back to the race. ML and I signed up for this race a couple of months ago. It wasn’t my first 5K but it was my first one with Noah and the first one I didn’t complete entirely by walking. Let me be just be honest… I’m not a fan of running. I’m really not even a fan of sweating that much but something got into me one day and I decided to give running a shot.
I use the Run Keeper app on my iPhone alternating in intervals of a minute thirty walking and a one minute run. Not gonna win me any medals anytime soon but it’s a start. To motivate me I had this flyer for the race hanging up in the kitchen with my time to beat on it.
Originally, it was set for 45 minutes but like the commercials during the Olympics once I beat that in training I dropped it to 40 minutes. Which was my final goal for the race. LIke I said, not gonna win any medals.
The race was loads of fun but I’m sad to report that I didn’t beat my 40 minute goal. The last few days leading up to the race Emma started lagging behind. I don’t think her body ever got to fully recover between runs. So she ended up joining Noah in the stroller. Somehow, I had also missed the memo (there was none) that this was a cross country track with some pretty steep hills.
We did finish in under 44 minutes though and had loads of fun afterwards.
Noah got her picture taken by the Colombia booth, helped paint a canvas, and made (I did) a lanyard for her diaper bag.
We stuck around after the race to enjoy the festivities and medal presentations.
ML was completely shocked when they called his name for third place in his age division.I was so excited for him because he gave it his all in this race.
I also want to point out the cute shirt Noah is wearing.
My sister made/designed it for her. Noah’s normal stroller is green and the baby has a “N” on her shirt for Noah. Too cute!
Race Two
Last weekend we headed north of the city (Birmingham) about thirty minutes to Warrior, AL so ML could take part in another 5K, Warrior Dash. Warrior Dash has several races all over the country that raises support for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. I opted out of this one for one obvious reason… it’s a mud race.
He had loads of fun tackling all the obstacles and mud though.
His finish time came closer to my time the previous week but that’s to be expected. It was insane the number of people that participated. Races started at 8:00 that morning with groups of 300 people (I think that’s right) running the course every thirty minutes. This went on with all time slots full until well into the afternoon.
And like every good warrior ML received a warrior helmet.
Don’t think Noah and I got out of this event clean though. My dreams of us laying on a blanket in the warm sun were smashed by the cold front and rain that came in earlier in the day. It was cold and wet and The Weather Channel told us nothing about this. So, I was unprepared. Which led to me wrapping my Tom’s in garbage bags.
Since this race is mainly about having fun some people dressed up for the occasion. Most who dressed up were in costume but these couples came dressed in their wedding dresses and tuxes.
And at the end was a massive shoe graveyard.
All in all we had a great time!
Afterwards, ML got semi cleaned up and we headed farther north of the city to the pumpkin patch where Noah got to experience her first petting zoo.
It was a nice way to end the afternoon before heading back for S’mores with friends at our house.
So that’s what we have been up to. I know there are all kinds of fun races out there now. What cool ones have you participated in? Or maybe you’ve just been enjoying S’mores and hayrides. What’s on your Fall agenda?

That little shirt is so cute! I really need to get back into running and training again, I’ve been a slacker lately!
Thanks! I’ve been slacking a little bit since the race too. Running makes me feel so old because my ankles hurt so much afterwards!
It look like your your family is having lots of fun and creating some great memories. And the little t.shirt … adorable.
Glenda
We are! It’s so much fun doing things together.
You guys are awesome! Andrew and I really wanted to do the Warrior Dash, but it just didn’t happen. I bet he would’ve done it if he knew Michael Luke was doing it. Looks like you guys have been having a lot of fun!
Thanks Trista! I wish would have thought to have asked Andrew… it would have been fun for us to all go together.
Great job!
Noah is so cute. That pic of the paint on her little toes is so sweet =)
Kevin and I might be doing a 10K mud run next spring…maybe…if we can get in shape by then! I don’t think I will be wearing my wedding dress though, lol!
Training for a 10K would definitely get you in shape. I don’t think I will ever make it that far. It would be really fun to do as a husband and wife team though… even if you did leave the wedding dress at home.
