Today I am kicking off the first Thankful Thursday post of November. Is anybody else surprised that it is already November? Next thing you know we will be taking down the tree and getting ready for the new year.
I am thankful for many things in my life… for everything really but when it came to writing about something specific I couldn’t help but think how thankful I am to be blessed with the opportunity to stay home with Noah everyday. I understand that there are lots of moms who have to work for whatever circumstances but would love to stay home with their children. This post is not meant to make you feel bad or guilt trip you. I also understand that there are some moms that absolutely love their jobs and feel incredibly blessed to have an amazing career as well as a beautiful family. Whatever our circumstances, we are all blessed and God can use us in each situation he has placed us in.
If you had asked me back in college if staying home to raise our kids was my dream. I would have probably responded with, “What kids?” and then “No, I want to continue working and and advancing in interior design, even after kids.”
Well slowly all this changed as did my desire to actually have kids. It’s funny how you can so clearly see God’s hand at work looking back. He was slowly preparing me.
Now that it’s been almost a year since God blessed us with Noah and I took an immediate leave of absence from “work”, I can honestly say, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.” I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to get to rock her to sleep everyday, play with her, and experience so many of her “firsts”. In a way it has also helped us to save money too. We don’t have the added cost of daycare and while many parents warned us to stock up and save for diapers, they have barely put a dent in our budget because we just had the initial $300 up front cost for our cloth diapers that we absolutely love! Feeding Noah has been super inexpensive as well because staying home with her made it easy for me to breast feed her as well as prepare all her baby food myself. I think I have only bought like four jars of baby food and now she just eats whatever we eat.
This job isn’t always easy and there are definitely days when I can’t wait for Michael Luke to get home so I can have an extra hand or two but it truly is a blessing and I thank God for it often. Right now as I type this Noah just woke up from her morning nap and I can hear her cooing and babbling away in her crib.
It’s the simple things in life that bring the biggest smiles.

Once I had my son my view on being home and having more children changed so fast! I absolutely love your “thankful” for the day! It’s a super fantastic post. I too love being able to be a stay at home mom, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you for reminding me of what a blessing it is and to be thankful in every way for it.

You will never regret staying home with your kids-at least I never have. Those years will fly by and then you can focus on your career if you choose. I think God will honor your decision!

Thanks! It makes me smile every time I see it. ML used to have it as the cover photo on his phone. It is crazy how you can never imagine the love that you can feel for you little one. It’s overwhelming and amazing. Such a blessing from God.
Aww, what a sweet post. 🙂 A lot of people have criticized me for taking off college to be a stay at home mom for the first year of each baby’s life, but I don’t regret it for a second! So my education takes longer, but it’s so worth it.
