The small group that Michael Luke and I are a part of has chosen to read through Timothy Keller’s book, The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God.
So far we are one chapter in and I am loving it! Don’t you just love a good book that is hard to put down? Marriage is something near and dear to mine and Michael Luke’s heart. Not just because we are married but because having a solid marriage built on the foundation of God is important and necessary for all couples.
Below is a short synopsis of the book… beware! It will make you want to buy the book.
Modern culture would make you believe that everyone has a soul-mate; that romance is the most important part of a successful marriage; that your spouse is there to help you realize your potential; that marriage does not mean forever, but merely for now; that starting over after a divorce is the best solution to seemingly intractable marriage issues. All those modern-day assumptions are, in a word, wrong.
Using the Bible as his guide, coupled with insightful commentary from his wife of thirty-six years, Kathy, Timothy Keller shows that God created marriage to bring us closer to him and to bring us more joy in our lives. It is a glorious relationship that is also the most misunderstood and mysterious. With a clear-eyed understanding of the Bible, and meaningful instruction on how to have a successful marriage, The Meaning of Marriage is essential reading for anyone who wants to know God and love more deeply in this life. Sounds good doesn’t it? I think it will be great for our small group and for our marriage! Has anyone else out there read this book yet? Or maybe other book by Timothy Keller? One of my favorites of his is Counterfeit Gods. To me he is an amazing apologist and has such of way with words. Definitely blessed by God in that category. Any other books on marriage you suggest reading?

This sounds really interesting! What a great group; I’m always interested in learning about relationships and marriage.
It really is good. Timothy Keller writes in a really easy to read format… which is great for me. Our favorite study on marriage and one that we have done multiple times is Emerson Eggrichs Love and Respect: The Love She Most Desires and the Respect He Desperately Needs. If you haven’t read it it’s great at helping to understand the opposite sex and how to best communicate with them.
Sounds great Krystal! Thanks for sharing…and I just remembered you emailed me about that other book. I’m so sorry I never replied. Things are so crazy sometimes!
That’s ok. Just let me know if you want to read it. I don’t mind sending it at all. It’s hard for life to be sane with a little one around.
