A Splash of White

Sometimes in the real world of DIY projects and weekend warrior attempts the project doesn’t get wrapped up in thirty minutes or less.  For example, the tiling of our kitchen backsplash that began over a month ago back when we repainted the kitchen.american olean backsplash

But now that it is completed (except for the grout) we couldn’t be happier!  For total wow factor lets go back and look at how our kitchen looked just a few months ago.

KitchenI don’t think our kitchen looked bad to begin with but I definitely think we have made a change for the better.  With the new lighter wall paint and white backsplash it is amazing how much larger the kitchen feels.

For the backsplash we used American Olean white subway tiles.  Basic ceramic subway tiles are some of the least expensive tiles you can buy but look beautiful and timeless once installed.

We still lack grouting the tiles but I gave him a break from DIYing for a little while.  Hopefully, later this month we will find some spare time to get the grouting knocked out.  What you see in the pictures is basically what it will look like once finished though because our grout color is grey.

I love how the white sink and backsplash really compliment the dark gray counters and that the tile extends all the way down to the counters.  Sometimes I have to almost pinch myself because I can’t believe it is my kitchen!
noahNoah doesn’t mind the changes either!

Next up on our kitchen renovation agenda is painting the cabinets, adding light valance to the upper cabinets, and installing under cabinet lighting.  I’ll be back later to let you weigh in on paint color selection for the cabinets.

What kind of DIY project have you or your significant other been up to lately?  Is your to-do list growing like mine?  I can’t help but want to tackle projects with all this beautiful weather God has blessed us with lately.

Thanks, Katie! I’ll let him know how much you love it. I thought he did pretty good too. It definitely takes someone who is a perfectionist to take on that job… which is not me by a long shot.

Thanks, Kelly! Now if I can just motivate myself to paint the cabinets. The hard part is going to be planning all this work around Noah. I”m sure you know what that’s like!
