Tuesday I shared my little caffeine induced project that happened last Fall.
Yep. I finished painting our foyer last Fall and I’m just now getting around to sharing. Where are my manners? I’m really sorry… it’s just first there was Noah’s birthday, then Thanksgiving, and by the time Christmas rolled around I really didn’t think you wanted to hear about our Lemon Chiffon foyer. It really doesn’t have a holly jolly look to it.
But now that we are in January and coming out of a terribly frigid cold spell here in Birmingham so why not turn to something a little cheerful and happy looking. Where are you Spring?
Any way we painted all the walls in the foyer Sherwin Williams Lemon Chiffon except for one.
Sorry for the bad lighting but painting was a spur of the moment decision by ML and me last Friday night. We really know how to live it up on the weekend, right? So for the past few months this wall has remained green… until now.
Four coats later we are happy to have a white wall. Why white? And what do we plan to do with it?
Remember last year when I shared our dream house we found in a Parade of Homes here in Birmingham. Well besides that house we also toured around twenty others. Another weekend that we really lived up! With no thought of moving we decided to take note of features in these new houses that we felt like we could replicate in our own 1970ish townhouse. One re-ocurring feature we noticed was built-in lockers of some kind in the mud room or the back entrance. We really liked the idea of having a place to drop everything but have neither a mud room or main back entrance to our house. The more we thought about the more we liked the idea of turning the area where our coat rack was into a faux locker area.
So, I turned to Pinterest and pinned a few inspiration pictures to help me collect my thoughts.

It would be nice to have that much area dedicated for the sole purpose of being a drop zone but we just have a small area at the foot of the stairs. Which is ok because we love a good challenge.
Our “locker” area will for the most part be non-dimensional (meaning we aren’t building out actual lockers) since it sits at the base of the stairs. Instead we plan to frame out the outline of the lockers using 2x4s. I know it sounds a little confusing but hopefully it will make a lot more sense once we are able to share pictures of everything nailed to the wall. It will look most like the first pinned picture above.
We painted the entire wall white since we aren’t actually building lockers… and because I’m also running a little low on Lemon Chiffon. I really like the entire wall painted white though… except for it makes me want to paint my door a crisp white now.
So, while we are busy nailing, painting, and adding a few hooks tell me what you have planned for this weekend. Any DIY projects? Are you catching a good movie? There are a ton of them out right now! Maybe you just plan to kick your feet up and watch the latest Downton Abbey episode. That’s definitely on my to-do list. I still haven’t seen last weeks episode and I’ve been looking forward to it for practically a year now!
Please be kind and if you want to pin any of the inspiration photos pin them from their source so that the owners can receive credit.
