Cahaba Heights Home

Our Cahaba Heights Home

It was our first home together, the first home we shared with our girls, and our first place where we got to practice our DIY skills.

It’s still our house (it’s our rental property now) but no longer our home.

We did away with the typical front yard shrubs and formed (here and here) a stone patio in our front yard to give us a place to watch the girls play in the front yard and hang out with neighbors.

To kick off the kitchen renovation we bought a turquoise indoor/outdoor rug. Next, we upgraded our white appliances to black (here) and then had new counters installed.  My sweet husband dug his DIY hands in and installed our new tile backsplash while I repainted the walls and cabinets. Next, we updated the hardware, light fixture, and faucet.

We brightened up the dining room by painting the table white with chalk board paint and then re-upholstered the benches.

Living Room

We converted the gas fireplace into wood burning and added electric logs to warm up the living room and moved the entertainment center to add more functionality to the room.

Our looming armoire was replaced this waiting to be made over cabinet and my work area moved from the 2nd bedroom upstairs to this sunny spot in the living room.

After finding this inspirational pillow we gave the master bedroom a much needed facelift with a new coat of paint (here, here) and new wall lamps (here).

Noah’s Bedroom (before Esther)

Starting out as a guest bedroom/office, Noah’s room received a complete makeover.  We  kicked off the transformation by painting the walls and then adding a crib, chair, and changing table/dresser.  Want to know how we painted the dresser?  Check out this post.  And in case we didn’t have enough color I made a hot pink clothespin starburst mirror for above the changing table. We also scored a great deal on this fabric and used it as curtains, crib skirt, and for the office chair we repainted.  My sister painted the custom painting for above the crib and I got a little crafty and made the butterfly mobile.  After receiving so many books we brought a little order to the book shelves by arranging the books by color and adding colorful boxes for storage.  To add a little more personality to the room I added a Cabbage Patch Doll lamp I made back in college and colorful poms for above the book case.

sherwin williams passive, master bathWe have slowly been transforming our bathroom with touches of aqua.  Like adding new towels, using pottery to contain baby bathing supplies, giving this piece of artwork new life, and painting the doors to this cabinet.  For fun this little fish got a new coat of paint.

We have also repainted the cabinets, walls, and added a fresh touch to upper cabinet.

Back Yard (Deck)

We added a little extra color to the back yard by doing this simple planter transformation.

Thanks! The deck is one of our favorite areas… especially my husbands because he doesn’t have to cut any grass back there.
