Ultimate Baby Food Flop

The other week we started Noah on solid foods, and as part of our whole eating healthy(ier) and living thrifty, I want to make her baby food. Up until this point, we have just given her a few fruits (mango, papaya, avocado, and banana) and sweet potatoes, so I haven’t needed to blend or steam anything.

We’ve used the Munchkin Fresh Food Feeders for all her food so far. She hasn’t quite lost the reflex that thrusts food out of the mouth, so sucking on the feeders is a great way for her to try different foods.

Last week, we decided to go ahead and order a baby food maker from Target (we still have gift cards).

After reading all the reviews, we decided to go with the Kidsline Baby Chef Ultimate Baby Food Center. Originally, I had only heard of the Beaba Babycook- Sorbet, but this one only had one less star rating and was around fifty bucks cheaper.

When it came in Tuesday, I was super excited and already looking forward to making her first batch of food. So Wednesday I got everything set up and ready to go. With some green peas in the steamer, my fist steamed creation was only moments away. That is until I pressed the “Steam” button, and nothing happened. Well it did beep a few times, but nothing after that.

At first, I just assumed it was supposed to do that, and then it would start steaming. But I got a little curious after reading the directions and warnings reminding me that the steamer would be hot to the touch and that I should use caution…¬†Caution!? I could place my hands right over the vents where the steam was supposed to be escaping, and could feel nothing. Next, I lifted the lid and took out some of the pieces to feel of the warming pad. Warming!? It wasn’t doing anything. Ugh.

So I called the 1-800 number and got a friendly lady who told me my product must be defective and to return it back to Target. Target is sold out online, so I am going to take that as a sign to go ahead and splurge a little on Beaba Babycook- Sorbet with five out of five stars at Target online.

In the meantime I will be steaming the veggies the old fashion way.

Has anybody else used the Beaba Babycook? Were you satisfied with it? Or do you recommend another food prep machine?

Oh, and for extra fun, what are some of your favorite baby food recipes?
